At the suggestion and work of one of my fave bloggers Reb of Life Doesn’t Have to Suck my new years resolution has taken a bit of a twist. I now have eight other bloggers who will be listening to albums with me and reviewing them every Thursday. We’ll link to each other’s reviews and compare notes. I loved this idea because the same music is interpreted completely different for each person.
The project, so aptly dubbed The Rewind Button will include the following blogs (and myself of course):
Love As A Verb
Life Doesn’t Have to Suck
Grad Student By Day
La Belle Vie
Going in order of Rolling Stone’s Top 100 Albums of all time, our first review was The Beatles- Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. I LOVED this album! My first memory of the Beatles was my dad playing their music on his record player and remember not liking it. I prefered the top hits my mom was listening to, Paula Abdul, Michael Jackson, etc. So when I popped this album in I wasn’t expecting much. Boy was I ever wrong!
This album was so awesome to listen to because every song has a different sound than the other. Unlike some artists, it was a kaleidoscope of songs which makes me wonder if that’s why the cover is so colorful and all over the place.
One of my favourite songs was Within You Without You (Reb’s least favourite) that had sitar in the background and made me feel like I was in yoga class. I went through an obsession with Bollywood for a while, so I am attributing that to my love of this song.
Some of the classic songs used in Across the Universe are on this album, Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite, A Little Help From My Friends.
There is a reason this album has been ranked #1, there is a song in there for everyone.
Be sure to check out the other bloggers for their take on the album!
Next Week The Rewind Button will Review Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.
