Friday Fitness Overview

10 May

It’s baaaack! After the honeymoon I became a total blob and stopped working out. My lunch hours were spent in a restaurant eating and reading a book and my evenings were spent on the couch with my new hubby inhaling fresh baked chocolate chip cookies like they were going out of style.

I stayed in blissful ignorance until two weeks ago at a friend’s house when I weighed myself and saw I had gained nine pounds in the two months since the wedding. Well, I think her scale was off, because the gym scale the next day said I was 173 (not 177) but that is still five pounds more than the 168 I had ballooned to two winters ago. So in the past two years, I have put on 18 pounds!!! I blame my husband entirely. He has way too much a of a sweet tooth it’s hard for me to be good.

Thanks to MyFitnessPal app, I am recording my food intake and my exercise. In two weeks, I have already gone from 173 to 169. Now, I know that is pretty much all water weight, but a victory on the scale is still a victory.

Anyway- my current weight is 169 now and my goal weight is 150.

Friday- I was in SLC for my brothers graduation and while I did not get in a formal work out. We spent and about two hours or so walking; around campus at University of Utah and at a cool pioneer village. (291 cal)

Had to wear my little brother's shoes because all that walking in heels was impossible!

Saturday- Hiked to Fifth Water Hot Springs! And then when we cooled off in the hotel pool I did some aqua jogging for a good 15 minutes or so. (539 cal)

Approaching the hot springs and waterfall. There were a lot of people there that day

Sunday- Sat on my butt for 13 hours driving home. Ugh! NOT fun!

Monday- Yoga (128 cal) and a short 10 minute run with the puppy to the ball diamonds to watch a little league game (102 cal)

Tuesday- HIIT @ lunch (230 cal)

Wednesday- Zumba (452) and 18 rounds of golf (1012 cal- which seems high to me but is what find on several calorie calculators)

I just love being outside!

Thursday- Softball (385 cal)

We have a TON of girls on our team so there was a lot of sitting. Not to mention I struck out all four times I batted! I was SO frustrated!! I need to step this ball thing up and start really putting some practice hours in.

Total Calories Burned- 2,127

Darn! Not quite enough for a full pound, though I have taken off a pound in the last week. I guess I’m not taking into account the low-cal clean eating I have been sticking to as well. It’s been a good week! :)

Struggling to Learn a New Sport as an Adult

23 Jul

For many years of my life I have been the girl everyone wanted on their team. I was fast and competitive and always gave it my all. I was never very coordinated with sports with balls. My sports were all individual sports where you relied on your body; running, gymnastics (which you think would have given me some grace), figure skating, etc.

So you can imagine my sheer frustration as I am in my second year of playing softball and still just as clumsy and awkward as ever. I miss easy balls, can barely hit it past the pitcher, duck when they are whipped at me fast and trip and fall.  I only get asked to play on teams because they want Ryan, who is an excellent player, to play or they are short a girl and I’m better than an automatic out.

This post is brought on by the fact that I TRIPPED AND FELL ON MY FACE running to first at a family tournament this weeked. In front of Ryan’s family I cut open my head and scraped up my nose and even worse, CRIED in front of them!! I had blood gushing from my nose and forehead as I skulked off the field. I didn’t cry because it hurt, I cried because I was so unbelievably humiliated. I still am! I am no longer the girl everyone wants on their team, I am the awkward, sucky girl who everyone has to put up with and I do not like that at all.

This was the day after. The day I fell my nose had a purple bruise on it! Those large “freckles” on my nose are scraped off chunks

So what’s a girl to do? While quitting does sound like the less humiliating option my inner athlete will not let me do that! I have to just keep at it. I have to put in the time and effort and maybe in 10 years I’ll be okay.

This was a scrape from one of my falls last year. I am so clumsy!

I can’t just relax and play softball “for fun” because that isn’t my personality. I never do anything without giving my all.

So I’ll keep at it until something clicks or until I break something- whichever comes first.

I wonder if I’ll ever get the hang of this

Softball in a Thunder Shower

26 Jun

I never would have thought playing ball in rain and hail could be so much fun! Our softball game got caught in a thunderstorm yesterday and we had to hide out in the dugout for a little bit while the worst of the rain and hail came down. We decided to play on after it stopped, soaking wet, and I had such a blast!  I haven’t splashed around in the mud since I was a kid and I am definitely going to make it a regular thing.

Cousins and a rainbow!

We were soaked!

These four crazies slid across home in the mud!

Jenn and love playing in the rain!

I played back catch literally standing in a puddle. I danced in a bit too.

My white socks were brown from splashing in the muddy water

Softball Tournament in Coutts

21 Jun

Thanks to Camille I actually have photo evidence that I do in fact play softball. Here it is:

Yup, that’s me in the pink tank top. :)

Coutts was a lot of fun; but who doesn’t have fun camping, playing ball and hanging out with your friends? We came in 10th our of  13 teams.  Ha!

It was hot, I got a good burn, it was pretty nice.

My absolute favourite part was being outside all the time. I would wake up and go outside for food, bathroom, etc. I could totally be a gypsy and live in a camper.

And so, a few photos from the weekend.

Camille was sick and we gave it a thumbs up.

That long grass line is the border. This  was Billie & Camille’s tent, but you can see is how close our camp site was to it. Border patrol was there the whole time making sure we didn’t cross.

Here is some footage from our 2011 Fall Ball season. I am not in it at all except as a commentator since I was doing the filming.

I am still having trouble getting the hang of this game. Yesterday, I tripped running into home and got a nice raspberry on my leg. It’s about the size of my palm.

It stings so bad. Lol!

My First Softball Game Ever!

4 May

So Monday was my first ball game with Boyfriends team. I was so freaking nervous because he and his team take this pretty seriously. We have had a few practices and I embarrassed myself by screaming and ducking when the ball came to close to me. With lots of extra practices from Boyfriend and his buddy Winter, I am not ducking anymore but I still lack some serious coordination skills.

I have never played a sport with a ball!! I did swimming, figure skating, gymnastics, cheer, cross country, track and triathlons. None of which required a ball!

The game wasn’t too bad. I played Rover so the ball never came to me so I didn’t have to worry about screaming and ducking. And I was the only girl to successfully make it first base!! But while I was sprinting for it…. I tripped on the base and did an aerial somersault before skidding across the gravel. See, no one told me that the bases aren’t actually soft bags, they are hard plastic! I have a nice scrape over half my shin from not knowing that.

Boyfriend said he had never seen anyone’s face redder in his whole life! But I felt a little better after another girl on our team, who has been playing for years took a ball to the face.

We have another game tonight and I’m hoping with one under my belt, I’ll be okay now.

Sorry it's so blurry. I keep forgetting my digi camera at home! This is the front of my leg
