A Picture A Day: Savouring the Summer

8 Jun

I am feeling blue. It feels like summer is never going to come and will never experience it being locked away in my basement office daily. I have decided to stop being such a whiner and do something to help me live in the now and enjoy my summer. So, starting today I am going to take a picture a day and post it on this blog. Hopefully this will force me to focus on the small beautiful things around me and to take a breath and appreciate life.  Watch for a picture a day starting tomorrow.

I want to surf!!

2 Feb

Hello All,

I have always wanted to surf and during my Hawaii trip in November 2009, i finally took a lesson and learned how to catch a wave. I have been hooked ever since. The problem? I am a land locked girls stranded in the prairies. So I get my surf fix through a number of online magazines and blogs and I figured I would share them with you.

Roxy Blog- My personal favourite. I love my Roxy snowboard and looking on their site looking for snowboard stuff is what introduced me to surf culture online. Finally! A way to get my fix.

SurfGirl- This awesome UK mag covers surfing, lifestyle and fitness for surfing. It also covers snowboarding so it’s another double win!

Womens Surf Style Magazine- How have I NEVER found this before in all my trips to Hawaii and bookstores? This is a fantastic magazine that they let you read online for free and it is so great in terms of interviews, surfing tips and fitness.

Foam Magazine- This magazine is what really caused my surfing bug. i had always wanted to try it, but after picking up an issue of this I was determined to surf. It has slowly started transitioning into more of an art magazine though with emphasis on music and art. But there are still some surfing items thrown in so I continue to read it.

Vancity Allie- Aw I love Ally! Her blog is a lot of fun and her two favourite hobbies are the same as mine, snowboarding and surfing! She is also a photography enthusiast so her pictures are always gorgeous.

Billabong- This blog tends to focus more on promoting their clothes, but they throw in news updates on Billabong riders so I like to check in on it once in a while

Snowboarding Season 10-11

1 Feb

So I have only gotten to go snowboarding twice so far this winter and neither for very long. I am extremely bummed out and am hoping that Feb/Mar will get me up to the mountains as many times as possible.

Kicking Horse

The first place I got to check out was Kicking Horse Mountain Resort in Golden, BC. This was the coolest place I have seen, really I went to Whistler for the Olympics and was more impressed with Golden. First off, the resort is literally a 10 meter walk from the gondola. They provide you with lockers to keep your stuff in, so you suit up and head out to the lifts! The resort itself is really nice, condos with full kitchens, very comfortable. It had three restaurants in the resort, Peaks Grill being my fave. The mountain itself is incredible with a restaurant at the peak and had so many runs. Now, this was my very first time in Rocky Mountain snow and I don’t know if I can ever snowboard in that slush in the Cascades every again. It was so dry and powdery, perfect for long, easy turns. Sadly I only had an hour, and it took my fat butt 40 minutes to get to the bottom and I was exhausted!!

The next place I went was Castle Mountain, close to Pincher Creek. I had planned to meet up with my friend Catie and her husband but had a series of mishaps that made me an hour late. So they

Castle Mountain

weren’t at the rental office. I figured I would potentially spot them on the mountain and off I went with my ipod. There were some great runs, and again the snow was amazing but it was COLD!!!!!! -20 at the base, so who knows what it was at the top. I put in a few runs before I had to go in for a half hour. After that I got in two more and said “Nuts to this!” and headed to the car. It felt like such a waste of time and money but I just couldn’t enjoy myself fully when it was so cold. My little nose had a vicious wind burn on it too. So I am goin to wait a couple weeks for things to warm up a little and try again. Yes I know the snow won’t be nearly as good on a warmer day, but I will enjoy it so much more!

So there you have it, My snowboard adventures thus far. Sadly no pictures, I have to bring my phone next time I go and snap a few shots.

I'm Back!

1 Feb

Gah! I think I officially take the title as the WORST BLOGGER EVER! I was doing so well for a while and then just stopped. A lot has changed since my last posting. I am no longer living in Waterton Park, i am now in the tiny town of Magrath commuting to Lethbridge for work. I am also working on starting up my own marketing company on the side and so a lot of my online time is spent reading career blogs. And then of course, adventure and lifestyle blogs too. I promise to get better now that I am settled into my new life  and trying to plan as many adventures as possible.

Riding Horses to Raise $ for Breast Cancer

9 Aug

I am so excited for this Friday! The Waterton Lakes Lodge is hosting the Wild Pink Fandango, a  hoe down open to the public to raise funds for breast cancer research and to celebrate the riders participating in the Wild Pink Yonder ride. The fandango is Friday, August 13 at 7:00 p.m. and will have a BBQ dinner, drinks, and dancing. It’s $25 to get in with all proceeds going to the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

But not only that, the guest celebrity attending is Amber Marshall from Heartland! My FAVORITE TV show! She will also be signing autographs the next Saturday morning at Vimy’s Lounge & Grill.

I am currently trying to wrangle a horse so I can ride out on that first day with Wild Pink Yonder, but we will see if I can make that happen. Either way, meeting Amber Marshall will make my summer!

Call 403.859.2104 if you would like to purchase tickets in advance, or you can purchase them at the door.

Need to get fit NOW!

20 Jul

So I have always thought I was in pretty good shape. I am not skinny by any means, but I am thin compared to most women and I was satisfied with that. Until I saw this picture taken of me in Glacier!!!!!

So, being half way through the summer I have go tot make a major change now! I thought I was pretty active, but I may have to do what I hate most and hit the *shudder* gym on top of all my outdoor activities. Eating too has got to change BIG TIME because I am a junk food/fast food addict. I have to fix that right away too.

They always say if you put something in writing like this it makes you more accountable. Watch this blog for cool nutritional facts, healthy recipes or good workouts as I work on slimming down.

Rain, Rain, Go Away!

21 Jun

So here it is.. week 5 of the rainy siege in Southern Alberta. I can’t believe this!

The top thing I couldn’t stand about Seattle was the rain. So I moved to sunny Southern Alberta. Ah! Not sunny now! I went to Richland, Washington last weekend to visit my family. It was great, I brought my nephew and was reunited with my siblings, mum and grandma. We had about a day and a half so we fit in a hike, and a tube float down the Columbia river.

We hiked up Badge Mountain (more like a large hill if you ask me) and shot some golf balls off it. I hit the most amazing shot I have ever done in my life! I also did some shopping, prices are so much cheaper in the states. When I was in Alberta, I was looking at a set of pink ladies clubs for 4255, I bought the EXACT same set in the states for $99!! And if it ever stops raining, I will actually get to go golfing!  Sometimes I wonder if the summer will ever come.
