Here we go again, another Beatles album- and I loved it! There is a reason why so many Beatles albums are on the Rolling Stones Top 500 Albums list, and that’s because their music is timeless. This project has really expanded my musical tastes. I was a 90s pop girl (think C+C Music Factory) my whole life, but forcing myself to listen to music I would never have given a try has really opened me up to new sounds and experiences.
Abbey Road was the Beatles last recorded album, recorded and released in 1969 (Let It Be was the last album released before the band’s dissolution in 1970).
Abbey Road is another album that Across the Universe took a lot of songs from. I Want You, which I was obsessed with from Across the Univers but like better in the original version because it is funkier and more 60s. I thought Because was beautiful in Across the Universe and then I heard the Beatles version and during that opening guitar riff I actually asked myself “What is this magic?” I did like the AtU version of Oh! Darling better and that’s because Dana Fuchs voice is mind blowing!
I thought Here Comes the Sun was funny because it seemed so ill placed on this album. It sounds like early Beatles and so upbeat after listening to the dark I Want You.
The Medley was interesting and here is some info I found about it. The 16-minute medley consists of several short songs, both finished and unfinished that were written (and originally recorded in demo form) during sessions for The White Album and the Get Back/Let It Be sessions.
