Never Hit the Gym Without A Plan

2 Feb

I was exhausted yesterday. I slept through my alarm, rushed off to work and sat like a zombie all morning. I was going to skip going to the gym but  I read fitness blogs and tweets all day and it pushed me to go to the gym for at least 45 minutes. I didn’t know what I was going to do so I figured I would wing it.

When I got there I thought I would do an easy 30 minutes on the elliptical and some weights. All the ellipticals were in use forcing me to use the stair stepper instead. I HATE the stair stepper! I wanted to get off after 5 minutes but I was embarrassed to, I didn’t want to look like one of those girls who doesn’t really work hard and I forced myself to stay on it for 20 minutes. I got a great lower body workout and decided I didn’t need weights I would just do abs. It only took me 15 minutes to get all the ab exercises in I wanted and I still hadn’t hit the 45 minute mark. Off to the treadmills I went to jog a quick mile as a warm down but by then it was 5:30 and all the treadmills were taken. Opting for the elliptical I was about 15 minutes in when I accidentally hit the stop button and my workout ended. Rather than continue on, I said screw it and went home.

I didn’t feel very good about my workout. I felt like I had half assed my way through a workout and while it was better than not going at all, I was disappointed in myself.

Hence these words of advice never hit the gym without a plan! You don’t have to have every exercise and rep count figured out but know what kind of cardio you want to do and for how long and what you want to achieve from your workout. That way you aren’t wandering aimlessly along like I did.

Never just go through the motions- be actively involved in your workout

Yep and always have a back up plan just in case machines and equipment you need are taken.
